Connectivity Study

21st Century Skills, e-learning, distance learning; tablets, laptops, PDAs, Mpeg Players, etc.

What will be a common need to make our students and schools successful for the future?

I say the most important will be proper connectivity/infrastructure, and then all the great teaching and learning can take place with appropriate personnel, equipment and other resources. But connectivity must be more than adequate and must be seamless and almost magical!

I would like your feedback on the Connectivity Study Report that is linked here.

How much is enough?

Today a T1 is like dial-up was just 2-3 years ago and we thought T1 was enough? Remember when hard drives first came to be? A 5m HD was at the time more than we could ever fill! Did that ever change so quickly! Now I can't even make do with 80g HDs! Bandwidth is becoming like the hard drives of the '80s! Where will it lead and How much do we need today in our schools? LAN speeds of 100 - 1000 m are the norm, how about our WAN speeds? IS T1 or multiple T1s enough? I don't think so. We need to look at LAN speeds for our WANs and then how much Internet access?
